dovishness

Favoring diplomatic solutions

Dovishness is the quality of favoring negotiation, diplomacy, or peaceful approaches over aggressive or militaristic ones.

The term appears most often in political and economic contexts: a politician's dovishness on foreign policy suggests reluctance to use military force, while a central banker's dovishness indicates preference for lower interest rates and tolerance of inflation.

The Fed chair's dovishness reassured markets.

The opposite quality is hawkishness.
