Los Angeles River
Concrete Southern California channel
The Los Angeles River is a waterway running roughly fifty miles through Los Angeles County, from the San Fernando Valley to Long Beach Harbor.
Once a natural river prone to devastating floods, it was lined with concrete in the mid-twentieth century, transforming it into what resembles a massive drainage channel.
The river appears in countless films as a distinctively urban backdrop—car chases, races, and confrontations often unfold in its wide, dry bed.
Recent decades have brought restoration efforts aimed at returning stretches to a more natural state.
