flood channel
Engineered drainage path
A flood channel is a waterway designed to divert excess water during floods, protecting populated areas from overflow.
These engineered channels—often concrete-lined—carry water away from rivers, streams, or urban areas that would otherwise flood: The flood channel kept the neighborhood dry during the heavy rains.
Also called a floodway or diversion channel.
