Leviathans

Mythic ocean monsters

Leviathans are massive sea monsters, originally from biblical tradition where the Leviathan was a fearsome primordial creature of chaos.

The word now applies to anything enormous and powerful: leviathans of industry, the leviathans of the deep.

A cruise ship or whale might be called a leviathan.

Thomas Hobbes used the term for the all-powerful state in his political philosophy.
