Tierra del Fuego

South America's tip

Tierra del Fuego is an archipelago at the southern tip of South America, divided between Chile and Argentina.

The name is Spanish for "land of fire," from the fires early European explorers saw burning on shore.

The main island is the largest in South America.

The region is known for its harsh climate, dramatic landscapes, and the city of Ushuaia—often called the southernmost city in the world.
