Jewesses

Women of Israel

Jewesses is the plural of Jewess, a female Jew.

The term is now considered dated and often offensive, as the -ess suffix has fallen out of favor for marking female versions of nouns.

Most contemporary speakers prefer *Jewish women* or simply *Jews*: The old novel referred to "Jewesses of the court," language no writer would use today.
