Heimlich maneuver
Abdominal thrust technique
The Heimlich maneuver is an emergency technique for dislodging food or other objects from a choking person's airway.
The rescuer stands behind the victim and delivers sharp upward thrusts to the abdomen, just below the ribcage, forcing air from the lungs to expel the obstruction.
Named for American physician Henry Heimlich, who developed it in the 1970s.
