Damascus steel
Legendary sword metal
Damascus steel is steel with a distinctive wavy, water-like pattern on its surface, produced by forging together layers of different metals.
The term originally referred to steel from the Near East prized for sword blades, though the exact ancient technique was lost.
Modern Damascus steel is made by folding and welding layers of steel, creating both the decorative pattern and a blade combining hardness with flexibility: a Damascus steel hunting knife.
