Circumcision

Ritual penile cutting

Circumcision is the surgical removal of the foreskin from the penis.

The practice is performed on infants for religious reasons in Judaism and Islam, and remains common in the United States for cultural or perceived health reasons.

Female circumcision, more accurately called female genital mutilation, involves removing part or all of the clitoris and sometimes other tissue—a practice widely condemned as harmful.
