Scotch

Whisky from Caledonia

Scotch is whisky distilled in Scotland, or the adjective describing it: Scotch whisky, a glass of Scotch.

The term once applied broadly to Scottish people and things—Scotch broth, Scotch tape—but Scots now generally prefer Scottish or Scots for themselves, reserving Scotch mainly for the drink.

He ordered a Scotch neat. (Lowercase scotch means to suppress or block.)
