Baron

Aristocratic formal address

A baron is a member of the lowest rank of European nobility, above a knight but below a viscount.

The title carries less prestige than count or duke but still confers aristocratic standing.

Extended to powerful figures in business or industry: oil baron, railroad baron, media baron.

A robber baron was a ruthless 19th-century American industrialist—or any capitalist seen as exploitative.
