Viscount
Rank below earl
A viscount is a nobleman ranking below an earl or count and above a baron in European aristocratic hierarchies.
The title originated as a deputy to a count.
In British usage, a viscount's wife is a viscountess, and the title passes to the eldest son.
The viscount hosted the annual hunt at his country estate.
