setting up

Preparing the groundwork

Setting up is preparing or arranging something for use or operation: We spent the morning setting up the tent, I'm still setting up my new laptop.

It extends to establishing situations or systems: setting up a business, setting up a meeting.

To set someone up can mean arranging a date for them, or framing them for something they didn't do: They set him up to take the fall.
