Asian carp
Midwest waterway problem
Asian carp are several species of large freshwater fish native to Asia, introduced to North American waters where they have become aggressively invasive.
They outcompete native fish, disrupt ecosystems, and famously leap from the water when disturbed by boat motors.
The term usually refers to bighead, silver, grass, and black carp: Efforts to keep Asian carp out of the Great Lakes have cost billions.
