Andrew Carnegie

Gospel of Wealth

Andrew Carnegie was a Scottish-American industrialist who dominated the American steel industry in the late nineteenth century, becoming one of the wealthiest people in history.

He later became famous for philanthropy, funding thousands of public libraries, universities, and foundations.

His name often evokes both the ruthlessness of Gilded Age capitalism and the ideal of giving away one's fortune: the Carnegie Hall, a Carnegie library, Carnegie Mellon University.
