J.P. Morgan

Robber baron banker

J.P.

Morgan was an American financier and banker who dominated corporate finance in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.

He organized massive consolidations—U.S.

Steel, General Electric—and personally intervened to stabilize financial panics.

The name now refers primarily to JPMorgan Chase, the banking conglomerate descended from his empire: She works at J.P. Morgan.

Morgan's name evokes both the power of concentrated capital and the era of the robber barons.
