South Side
Below the Loop
South Side is the proper name for distinct urban areas, most famously the South Side of Chicago—a sprawling region with deep ties to African American culture, blues music, and working-class history.
Other cities have their own South Sides with local significance: She grew up on the South Side.
The name often evokes particular cultural or socioeconomic associations depending on the city. (Lowercase south side is any southern portion.)
