misers

Hoarders of wealth

Misers are people who hoard wealth and hate spending it, even on necessities.

The word carries strong negative connotations—misers aren't just frugal, they're obsessively stingy to the point of self-denial: The old miser died alone in a house full of money he never spent.

Dickens's Scrooge is the archetypal miser.
