Ancestral Puebloans
Four Corners ancients
Ancestral Puebloans is the preferred term for the prehistoric peoples who inhabited the Four Corners region of the American Southwest from roughly 100 to 1600 CE.
They built the cliff dwellings at Mesa Verde and other stone structures throughout the Colorado Plateau.
The older term Anasazi, from Navajo, has fallen out of favor because it translates roughly as "ancient enemies"—a name modern Pueblo peoples reject for their ancestors.
