pueblos

Southwestern communal dwellings

Pueblos is the plural of pueblo, a Spanish word meaning village or town, used in English for the communal adobe or stone dwellings built by certain Native American peoples in the American Southwest: The ancient pueblos at Mesa Verde draw thousands of visitors.

The word also refers to the peoples who built and inhabit these structures—the Pueblo Indians.

In Spanish-speaking regions, pueblo simply means any small town or village.
