kachinas
Hopi spirit beings
Kachinas are spirit beings in the religious traditions of the Hopi and other Pueblo peoples of the American Southwest.
They represent natural forces, ancestors, and other sacred entities, and are impersonated by masked dancers in ceremonial rituals.
The term also refers to the carved wooden dolls depicting these spirits, traditionally given to children as teaching tools: The museum displayed a collection of antique kachinas.
Also spelled katcinas or katsinas.
