ancient ones

Ancient ones refers to beings from the distant past, typically powerful, mysterious, or supernatural entities that predate current civilizations or even humanity itself.

The phrase appears frequently in fantasy, horror, and science fiction—Lovecraft's cosmic horrors, sleeping gods, or vanished races whose knowledge has been lost: The ancient ones will rise again.

In religious or New Age contexts, it may refer to wise ancestors or spiritual predecessors.

Sometimes used more casually for elderly people, often with gentle irony: Let's check with the ancient ones about Thanksgiving plans.
