Anatomy

Study of bodies

Anatomy is the structure of a body or organism, or the scientific study of that structure.

Medical students learn anatomy by dissecting cadavers.

The word extends to any detailed examination of structure: the anatomy of a deal, the anatomy of a murder.

An anatomy is also a body itself, now somewhat old-fashioned: She stretched her weary anatomy across the bed.
