zaatar

Middle Eastern blend

Zaatar (also spelled za'atar) is a Middle Eastern spice blend typically combining dried thyme, oregano, marjoram, sumac, and toasted sesame seeds.

The word also refers to a wild thyme plant native to the Levant region.

The blend is commonly mixed with olive oil and spread on flatbread, sprinkled on hummus, or used as a seasoning for meats and vegetables.

I dipped the warm bread in olive oil and zaatar.
