hyssop

Blue-flowered mint

Hyssop is an aromatic herb of the mint family, with small blue flowers and bitter leaves used in cooking and herbal medicine.

The plant appears repeatedly in the Bible as a purifying agent: Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean.

Modern hyssop flavors some liqueurs and is grown ornamentally.
