Oscillating string toy
A yoyo is a toy consisting of two connected disks with a string wound around the axle between them.
You hold the string's end and let the yoyo drop, then flick your wrist to make it climb back up.
The term extends to anything that fluctuates up and down: yoyo dieting, yoyo prices.
To yoyo is to move erratically between states.
Calling someone a yoyo means they're foolish or incompetent.
