unwind

Release the tension

To unwind is to reverse something that has been wound—uncoiling rope, unwrapping bandages, or releasing tension from a spring.

The figurative sense dominates everyday use: to relax after stress or exertion, letting accumulated tension release: I need a glass of wine to unwind after work.

Financial transactions can also unwind when they're reversed or undone.
