white knight
Gallant corporate savior
A white knight is someone who comes to another's rescue, especially at a critical moment.
In business, a white knight is a friendly acquirer who saves a company from a hostile takeover: The board welcomed the white knight's competing bid.
The term can carry a dismissive edge when applied to someone who rushes to defend others without being asked, particularly online: He swooped in like a white knight to defend her in the comments.
