corporate raider
Unwelcome takeover specialist
A corporate raider is an investor or firm that buys large stakes in companies to force changes that increase stock value—often pushing for asset sales, management changes, or outright acquisition.
The term carries predatory connotations, suggesting profit-seeking at the expense of employees or long-term stability: Corporate raiders gutted the company and sold it off piece by piece.
The practice was especially prominent in the 1980s leveraged buyout era.
