wench

Saucy serving girl

A wench is a girl or young woman, especially one of lower social standing or a servant.

The word was once neutral—Shakespeare uses it freely—but acquired connotations of rusticity, low class, and sexual availability.

A serving wench in a tavern might be more than a waitress.

Today wench survives mainly in historical fiction, Renaissance faires, and playful archaism: Arrr, me hearty wench!

The wenches at the faire served turkey legs and ale.

As a verb, to wench means to consort with promiscuous women: He spent his youth wenching and drinking.

The word can still be used as a mild, dated insult for a woman considered loose or low-class, but this sounds more theatrical than genuinely offensive.
