beer wenches

Beer wenches are women who serve beer, especially at festivals, Renaissance fairs, or themed establishments.

The term evokes a vaguely medieval tavern atmosphere, with servers often wearing period costumes—corsets, peasant blouses, long skirts.

Though wench once simply meant a young woman, its archaic flavor now makes the phrase feel playful rather than demeaning: The beer wenches kept the steins flowing all afternoon.
