victory garden

Homefront vegetable patch

A victory garden is a home vegetable garden planted to supplement food supplies during wartime, especially during World War I and World War II.

The term has been revived for gardens grown during other periods of scarcity or as acts of self-sufficiency: We started a victory garden during the pandemic.
