upregulation

Boosting gene activity

Upregulation is an increase in a cell's response to a stimulus, typically through producing more receptors or increasing their sensitivity.

The term appears in biology and medicine to describe how cells amplify signals: Upregulation of dopamine receptors occurs after prolonged medication use.

The opposite process is downregulation.
