thermogenesis

Biological heat production

Thermogenesis is the production of heat by the body.

All living organisms generate heat through metabolic processes, but the term usually appears in discussions of weight loss and metabolism—brown fat engages in thermogenesis to burn calories, and certain foods or supplements claim to boost thermogenesis for weight management: Coffee may increase thermogenesis slightly.
