traveler's diarrhea
Vacation digestive upset
Traveler's diarrhea is a digestive illness contracted while visiting regions with unfamiliar food or water—typically developing countries where sanitation standards differ from what the traveler's system is accustomed to.
The condition usually involves loose stools, cramping, and sometimes fever, lasting a few days: I picked up traveler's diarrhea in Mexico and spent half the trip in the hotel room.
Also called Montezuma's revenge, Delhi belly, or similar regional nicknames.
