enteritis

Small bowel swelling

Enteritis is inflammation of the intestine, especially the small intestine.

It typically causes abdominal pain, diarrhea, and sometimes fever, resulting from bacterial or viral infection, food poisoning, or other irritants.

The condition may occur alone or alongside inflammation of the stomach (gastroenteritis) or colon (enterocolitis).

The doctor diagnosed enteritis after ruling out other causes of the persistent cramping.
