tower house
Tall fortified dwelling
A tower house is a fortified residential structure, typically three to five stories tall, built for defense and living.
Common in Scotland and Ireland from the 14th to 17th centuries, these compact stone buildings served as homes for minor nobility and landowners in areas where central authority was weak.
The clan chief held court in his tower house.
