tophats
Magicians' signature headwear
Tophats is the plural of tophat, a tall cylindrical hat with a flat top and narrow brim, traditionally made of silk or beaver felt.
Once standard formal wear for men, tophats now appear mainly at ceremonial occasions, in period costumes, or as symbols of old-fashioned elegance and wealth: The magician pulled a rabbit from his tophat.
Also spelled top hats.
