Little Red Book
Chinese communist handbook
Little Red Book refers most often to *Quotations from Chairman Mao Tse-tung*, a collection of excerpts from the Chinese communist leader's speeches and writings, printed in a pocket-sized edition with a red plastic cover.
It was distributed to virtually every Chinese citizen during the Cultural Revolution (1966–1976) and became a symbol of Maoist ideology: They waved their Little Red Books at the rally.
The term now sometimes describes any pocket guide treating its subject with quasi-religious authority.
