freedom of thought
Autonomous cognitive sovereignty
Freedom of thought is the right to hold any belief, opinion, or idea without interference or coercion.
Unlike freedom of speech, which concerns expression, freedom of thought protects the inner life of the mind—what you believe privately.
The concept appears in human rights frameworks as an absolute right: governments may restrict what you say or do, but not what you think.
In a free society, freedom of thought is inviolable.
