Long March

Red Army's trek

The Long March was the 1934–35 retreat of Chinese Communist forces across 6,000 miles of difficult terrain to escape Nationalist encirclement.

Led by Mao Zedong, it became a founding myth of the People's Republic—a symbol of revolutionary endurance against impossible odds.

The phrase now describes any arduous, protracted struggle toward a distant goal.
