tetralogy of Fallot

Blue baby syndrome

Tetralogy of Fallot is a congenital heart defect comprising four abnormalities: a hole between the heart's lower chambers, obstruction of blood flow to the lungs, displacement of the aorta, and thickening of the right ventricle wall.

Before surgical correction became routine, affected children developed a bluish tint from oxygen-poor blood, giving rise to the term "blue baby."
