blue baby
Hypoxic infant condition
A blue baby is an infant born with a bluish tint to the skin, caused by insufficient oxygen in the blood—typically from a congenital heart defect or lung condition.
The term comes from the visible cyanosis, the blue discoloration that results when blood isn't properly oxygenated.
Medical advances now allow surgical correction of many underlying conditions.
