tendu

Pointed foot exercise

Tendu is a ballet position in which one leg extends from the body with the toe pointed and touching the floor.

The movement—stretching the working leg outward while keeping contact with the ground—is fundamental to classical technique: We did tendus at the barre for twenty minutes.

From French for "stretched."
