fondu

Dancer's sinking movement

Fondu is a ballet position or movement in which the supporting leg bends while the working leg extends, creating a smooth, melting quality—the word comes from French for "melted." The dancer sinks and rises with controlled fluidity: She executed a perfect fondu before the grand jeté.

Not to be confused with fondue, the melted cheese dish.
