indian
From New Delhi
Lowercase indian is nonstandard or archaic.
In historical texts, the lowercase appears when referring to indigenous peoples of the Americas or to people from India, though modern usage strongly prefers capitalization for both.
The lowercase sometimes appears in compounds that have become generic terms: indian summer, indian file, indian corn.
Using lowercase for people is now considered disrespectful. (Capitalized Indian is the standard form.)
