superheater

Beyond-boiling steam device

A superheater is a device that heats steam beyond its saturation point, producing steam hotter than the boiling temperature of water at a given pressure.

Found in steam engines, power plants, and locomotives, superheaters increase thermal efficiency by ensuring the steam remains dry and carries more energy: The locomotive's superheater allowed it to pull heavier loads.
