Subscribers are people who have signed up to receive something regularly—a magazine, a streaming service, updates from a channel or newsletter.
The word implies an ongoing relationship rather than a one-time transaction: The channel just hit a million subscribers.
In older usage, to subscribe meant to sign one's name in agreement, so subscribers were signatories to a document or contributors to a fund.
