supersampling
Rendering at excess
Supersampling is a technique for improving image quality by rendering at a higher resolution than the final output, then scaling down.
The process captures more detail and smooths jagged edges, producing cleaner results than rendering at native resolution.
The term appears most often in video games and computer graphics: I enabled 4x supersampling to reduce aliasing.
The tradeoff is increased processing demands.
