stile
Climb-over for walkers
A stile is a structure allowing people to climb over a fence or wall while keeping livestock contained—typically a set of steps or a narrow gap.
Stiles appear along footpaths crossing farmland: We climbed the stile into the next field.
The word is mostly British, as American rural areas favor gates.
